Signal 99

Hard-driving, gas-masked metal punk from Farmington, New Mexico. Chuck Haven's Signal 99 carries a large catalog, international festival dates, awarded videos, and a message of survival for the Southwest.

“Signal 99 ripped my face off at SXSW, which is a good thing because I'm ugly. This is a band that delivers it from the gut and from the heart on all fronts.”Jimmy Landry, Producer / Songwriter / Engineer, Cakewalk
“Signal 99 have the drive to survive and the hearts of headliners. They have been called New Mexico's #1 metal band for good reason.”Michael Black, CEO, Dead Sea Records; author of Indie 101
“Metal music represents a healthy outlet, a calculated response to the challenges of growing up in an environment where alcoholism, poverty, and physical and mental abuse are common.”Chuck Haven, Signal 99

Biography

Signal 99 is the project of Chuck Haven, a Navajo vocalist, lyricist, and songwriter from the heart of the Southwest. It began as a solo project and grew into a live band with Chuck's brother, Hank Haven, on bass. Years of constant touring built the band's reputation, first on the Navajo Nation and then across the West Coast, the Southwest, and Mexico.

In 2014, Hank lost his life to multiple sclerosis. It was his wish that Signal 99 continue, and Chuck has carried the band forward since, with new bandmates and songs that grew more politically and socially conscious with the 2017 album American Monster, which earned Signal 99 the title of New Mexico's #1 metal band.

Clad in military gas masks and war paint, the band plays hard metal punk with hard-rock vocal hooks and minor-key tonality. The masks are a protest against the toxicity of popular culture. The songs take on multiple sclerosis, substance abuse, domestic violence, and life in poverty-stricken corners of the reservation, with a message of hope and recovery.

Signal 99 has never lost its connection to community, playing benefit shows for Navajo Nation Fair, Chaco Canyon, Oak Flat, Standing Rock, Native American youth, and multiple sclerosis awareness, and supporting FEED Shiprock, Metal Heads Against MS, and SigFest.

The latest release is the single I Hate Biscuits. Chuck is currently writing new material and fronting a live band for a 2027 tour.
